SUMMARY:Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival
DESCRIPTION:Madisonville celebrates 33 years on the banks of the beautiful Tchefuncte River this fall as the Wooden Boat Festival returns\, October 14-15\, 2023. Presented by Maritime Museum Louisiana\, this fun family festival attracts over one hundred classic boats\, hundreds of spectator boats and wooden boat and music enthusiasts for this two-day celebration\, open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. A pre-festival gala at the Museum\, “Maritime Mania”\, is held on the Friday evening before the festival. \nThe festival offers tons of fun for kids of all ages\, including arts and crafts booths lined along Water Street\, the Quick ‘n Dirty Boat Building Contest and Parade on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. and the “Anchors Away” Cardboard Boat Regatta on Saturday\, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Individuals and teams are invited to test their skills in creating and piloting their own seagoing vessels in these contests for bragging rights and an array of prizes. Participation is free and open to all teams and individuals age 12 and over. Boat-building activities will take place in the parking area across the street from the museum. The Regatta launches at 3:00 PM from the small dock on the south side of Water Street. \nTickets are $10 per day for adults\, $5 for seniors 65+\, $5 for children 5-12 years of age and free for children 5 and under and Active Duty Military (with ID).

SUMMARY:Rockland Yacht Club Scholarship Regatta 2023
DESCRIPTION:The Rockland Yacht Club’s (RYC) annual Scholarship Race will take on a new dimension in 2023 by partnering with the Sail\, Power & Steam Museum to help raise funds for educational opportunities for youth sailing programs in Midcoast Maine. Scheduled for August 19\, 2023\, all yachts are welcome to participate. If there are sufficient competitors\, there will be three divisions (class splits will be determined on race day) including  spinnaker and non-spinnaker classes. One-design classes are encouraged but must have at least three boats entered to be scored as their own class. This event will help to raise funds for the next generation of sailors to get out on the water and learn the joys of seamanship for free.\n\nThe yacht club will be open at 9:00am on August 19. There will be a skippers meeting at 10:00am at the RYC Clubhouse. The first warning signal will be at approximately 11:30am.\n\nThe starting line will be located outside of and to the southeast of the Rockland Ferry channel in Penobscot Bay and indicated by the RYC Race Committee boat. Courses will be described in the Sailing Instructions and at the Skippers’ Meeting at 10:00am at the Rockland Yacht Club. The final course will be determined by the Race Committee on the day of the race and announced at the Skippers’ Meeting.\n\nThe event will be followed by an Awards Ceremony and lobster bake/BBQ overlooking South Rockland Harbor at the Sail\, Power & Steam Museum starting at 5:30pm. Music\, food\, drinks and beautifully crafted awards will be enjoyed by competitors\, crew and guests as the sun sets over the harbor. Additional prizes will be awarded to the boat raising the most funds for sailing scholarships.\n\nParticipating boats are encouraged to raise additional funds to add to scholarships for youth sailing programs. Team pages can be created via GoFundMe’s non-profit program\, making online fundraising easy and seamless.  Boats unable to participate in the regatta can still raise money via the Virtual Class  which has been created to allow any boat or team to participate.  Prizes will be awarded to the boats that raise the most money during the regatta.\n\nRegistration is required at regattaman.com for all boats. The registration fee will be $100 prior to August 9\, 2023 and $125 thereafter. SUMMARY:Big Little Boat Festival 2023
DESCRIPTION:Chesapeake Light Craft’s annual Spring rendezvous\, once known as “OkoumeFest\,” will be at Conquest Beach on the Chester River. Conquest Beach is situated in a 758-acre nature reserve between the Chester and Corsica Rivers. It is about an hour east of our Annapolis shop. The beach has easy access for small boats on dollies and plenty of shade on shore. The facility includes camping\, two bath houses with showers\, plenty of parking\, and and a killer view of a lovely\, protected river. The event is free and open to the public. \nOur rowing\, sailing\, and paddling fleet will be available for on-water demos. Under the pavilion\, we will have boatbuilding seminars. The kids’ cardboard boatbuilding event at last year’s BLBF was a huge hit and will return this year. SUMMARY:Eggemoggin Reach Regatta
DESCRIPTION:The Eggemoggin Reach Regatta began humbly in 1985 with thirteen wooden boats and a dream. Organizer Steve White along with Frank Hull of Brooklin Boatyard first envisioned the race as an opportunity for wooden boat owners to get to together and enjoy each others company as well as to compete. \nThe race begins in Camden\, Maine and ends at Babson Island just outside the WoodenBoat School waterfront. Boats must be 24′ in order to race\, perhaps just outside of the small boat range\, but smaller vessels can watch the busy starting line and greet racers at the finish line. \nPost race festivities on the school’s lawn begin around 5 p.m. and include a catered dinner\, free beer\, and live music from a local band. Beware\, the part can stretch deep in to the night—by Maine standards at least.

The 2021 race week would have marked the 20th anniversary of the event. \nEvent organizers say the board of directors is following local covid-19 guidelines and add: \n“We could not invite hundreds of sailors to gather convivially in the harbors without\nbeing sure the restaurants and bars could be open. We could not welcome our friends\nof the foreign delegations while imposing on them quarantine upon their arrival. We\ncould not either share the show of the nautical parades with thousands of visitors on\nthe shores of the Morbihan Gulf.” \n  \nThe 11th edition will now have to wait until 2023.

DESCRIPTION:The Texas 200 is a “Raid”-type event; that is\, it involves a scheduled gathering of small boats traveling more or less in company from Point A to Point B over a period of several days\, camping along the way.  The Texas 200 goes through the Laguna Madre and the bays of South Texas for five to six days and about 200 miles. Shallow draft boats will have options in terms of routes through the bays\, while deeper draft vessels will spend more time in the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW).  For any who may be unfamiliar with the ICW\, it follows the Atlantic and Gulf coasts from New Jersey to the southern tip of Texas\, providing a more or less protected waterway of canals and bays for commercial barge traffic\, an alternative to open ocean shipping. \n

Accompanied by safety boats\, nothing beats sailing and rowing from the Atlantic at Fort William\, through Fort Augustus and the mighty Loch Ness\, to the finish in the Beauly Firth at Inverness\, the Highland’s capital. Sea-to-sea via some of the world’s most stunning mountain scenery in the safety of an accompanied expedition for small boats. \nSail Caledonia is a friendly\, open event for smaller (c. 5m – 9m) boats capable of completing the journey under sail and/or oar.
