Now in its seventh year, the Portland Wooden Boat Festival celebrates the final day of a Family Boat Building weekend, sponsored by RiversWest Small Craft Center and the Willamette Sailing Club. The event, which takes place on the banks of the Willamette River, will celebrate the families and teams, each building a Salt Water Bay skiff, with mentoring from expert wooden boat builders. James Wakefield Rescue Row

On Saturday, October 7th, the Champlain Longboats Program at Lake Champlain Maritime Museum will hold it’s annual James Wakefield Rescue Race. The race is named after James Wakefield who was responsible for the courageous rescue of the passengers and crew of the The Canal Schooner General Butler on December 9th, 1876 after it crashed into Burlington’s breakwater during a fierce winter gale.
