$2,200.00

Built to a design by Robert Steward, circa 1959.

LOA – 11′3″   Beam 4′5″ Draft 5″ (to bottom of skeg)

Price – $2200

The Steward Skiff was a simple workboat design, easy to build and with a moderate load carrying capacity.  They are extremely good rowing boats and tow easily, with shallow draft and fine entry, and the shape of the bow makes them quite dry.

This project was a major rebuild, since much of the hardwood in the boat was showing deterioration.  Only the plywood bottom, quarter knees, the 4 planks, and the chine logs were retained.  A new transom of 1″ clear Yellow Cedar replaced the original 5/8″ white oak, and the breast hook and two-part stem were replaced with Live Oak. Thwart risers  and frames are mahogany;  inwales are Iroko; rubrails, keel, and skeg are Oak; thwarts are White pine (aft) and Cedar.

The bottom has been planed fair and then rebuilt with a tough thickened epoxy layer for wear resistance. The hull had developed significant twist over the years, and this was corrected during the rebuild.

Paint is Pettit EZpoxy throughout, brightwork is oiled for ease of maintenance.
