Port Townsend Skiff

After seven years of building, cruising and loving ‘Mojo’ our Port Townsend Skiff, it is time to move on and let her be loved by her next family. ‘Mojo’ has provided us with many adventures, transported us to places that we never could have experienced, viewed the beautiful Pacific Northwest as would not have been possible. ‘Mojo’ has truly been magic. We will miss her, but she is now available to do her magic for you.
The PT Skiff was designed by Bieker Boats to be a lightweight, easily driven center console boat for use in bigger inland waters like Puget Sound and the Columbia River. The boat is exceptionally competent for its size in challenging conditions. The 20 HP outboard powers the boat to 20 knots and a comfortable 10-15 knot cruising speed. I like cruising at 10-12 knots (old man speed) which gives the boat .5-.6 gph sipping from the 6 gallon fuel tank.
The most amazing thing about this hull shape is the elimination of ‘climbing over the bow wake’ which is usual in planing hull boats. She just achieves a plane smoothly and calmly, often without the skipper’s knowledge, just slithering up onto a plane. She’s an amazing boat. There is also the flexibility of the seawater ballast tank. You can run light in flat water for maximum speed and efficiency, or fill the ballast tank and add 330# of seawater ballast to calm the boat in more challenging conditions. It’s almost like having two boats: the light and lively skiff without ballast. Or the more calm and composed boat with the ballast tank full in more difficult conditions. Want to drain the tank? Just run her up on plane and open the valve. The tank will siphon off its contents.
The Port Townsend Skiff (PT Skiff) is a kit boat from Port Townsend Watercraft http://www.ptwatercraft.com/ptwatercraft/PT_Skiff.html
‘Mojo’ is hull #11 of about fifteen boats built prior to suspending production in 2018. The construction is composite, of Okume BS-1088 plywood CNC cut and encased in epoxy and fiberglass cloth.
This boat has solid mahogany seat-tops, coamings and trim which were not part of the kit. Several of the plywood parts were re-cut to provide the appropriate grain direction as the kit was intended to be painted. The CVG Fir aft decks were detailed in the plans.
‘Mojo’ has been stored indoors between adventures and meticulously maintained by the original owner/builder. Complete logbooks are available.
