Oughtred’s “Feather”, a tiny tender for your tiny ship—Newly completed
Oar & Paddle / Posted 1 week ago / 189 views
Designed as a minimal size tender, she can carry two adults, and stow on the deck of most anything you can’t tie to the dinghy dock! At 6′ 8″ LOA and 45″ molded beam (49″ over the rope guard), she will fit in any davits or on most any deck. At just 60 pounds, she can be easily hoisted on deck. She is built of lapstrake okume plywood over white oak, with transom, floorboards, and thwarts of sapele. A pair of new sitka spruce oars are included. Just completed, she has been afloat for sea trials only. I was intrigued by the capabilities of such a small pram, but I have no need for the boat. With a robust towing eye mounted low on the bow, she will tow nicely in settled weather. The designer has drawn a sailing rig, which I elected not to build, as it would double the cost of construction. Many such rigs are never used, and often in the way. Plans will be included if you desire to add the rig. Leeboards eliminate the need for a daggerboard case. Finished with varnish and Interlux Brightsides over penetrating epoxy. Though built as a tender, she could stand in a corner in an apartment, fit inside an SUV, and make a great minimal family/kids rowboat.
